It is the baseline state of the rotor, captured during the very first run of a balancing procedure. Its magnitude and angular location are found by measuring <a href=\"https:\/\/vibromera.eu\/ca\/glossary\/vibration\/\">vibration<\/a> amplitude and <a href=\"https:\/\/vibromera.eu\/ca\/glossary\/phase\/\">phase<\/a> while the rotor turns at its balancing speed. Everything that follows in a balancing job is referenced to this starting vector: it is the benchmark against which the effectiveness of the work is judged, and whatever remains once correction is complete is called <a href=\"https:\/\/vibromera.eu\/ca\/glossary\/residual-unbalance\/\">residual unbalance<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>1. How Initial Unbalance Is Measured<\/h2>\n<p>Initial unbalance is quantified on the first measurement run of a balancing procedure.<\/p>\n<h3>Measurement Parameters<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Vibration amplitude:<\/strong> the magnitude of the 1\u00d7 (once-per-revolution) component, typically in mm\/s, in\/s, or mils. It tracks directly with the severity of the unbalance.<\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/vibromera.eu\/ca\/glossary\/phase-angle\/\">Phase angle<\/a>:<\/strong> the timing of the 1\u00d7 vibration peak in degrees, relative to a reference mark detected by a <a href=\"https:\/\/vibromera.eu\/ca\/glossary\/keyphasor\/\">keyphasor<\/a> o <a href=\"https:\/\/vibromera.eu\/ca\/glossary\/tachometer\/\">tachometer<\/a>. This is the <em>response<\/em> phase, not directly the heavy-spot angle: the vibration lags the actual heavy spot by an amount that depends on how close the running speed is to a <a href=\"https:\/\/vibromera.eu\/ca\/glossary\/resonance\/\">resonance<\/a> (from near 0\u00b0 well below it, through 90\u00b0 at it, to near 180\u00b0 above it), plus sensor and instrumentation delays.
