Measured-flow arithmetic
Compressed-Air Leak Electricity Cost
Calculate reference volume, electrical energy and electricity cost from a measured leak flow and measured same-basis system specific energy. No hole-diameter orifice model is used.
Leak electricity arithmetic
The Протокол оцінювання систем стисненого повітря US DOE describes measured/trended load profiles and separate leak-flow quantification. ISO 11011:2013 assesses the whole compressed-air system from energy input through supply, transmission and demand. ISO 1217:2009/Amd1:2016 covers displacement-compressor acceptance tests for volume flow and power; it does not validate an arbitrary leak-hole formula.
No orifice prediction: diameter alone is insufficient. Real gas mass flow requires geometry/Cd, absolute upstream and downstream pressure, gas temperature/properties and choked/subcritical regime, followed by an explicit reference-volume conversion. Use a calibrated flow method, leak-down test, bag method or validated model as appropriate.
The cost result includes electricity energy only. Demand charges, maintenance, lost production, repair and benefits from changing system pressure/control are outside this arithmetic.
