Basic Rating Life L10

Per ISO 281, the basic rating life in millions of revolutions is:

  • C — basic dynamic load rating (kN)
  • P — equivalent dynamic bearing load (kN)
  • p — life exponent: 3 for ball bearings, 10/3 for roller bearings

Modified Rating Life L10a

The adjusted (modified) rating life accounts for reliability and operating conditions:

  • a1 — life adjustment factor for reliability (1.0 for 90%, 0.21 for 99%)
  • aISO — life modification factor for lubrication, contamination, and fatigue load limit

Practical Example

Example — 6208 Deep Groove Ball Bearing

Given: C = 52.7 kN, P = 10 kN, n = 1500 RPM, a1 = 1.0, aISO = 1.0

L10 = (52.7 / 10)3 = 146.36 million rev

L10h = 146.36 × 106 / (60 × 1500) = 1,626 hours

L10a = 1.0 × 1.0 × 1,626 = 1,626 hours

⚠️ Note: The aISO factor depends on the viscosity ratio κ and contamination level. Consult bearing manufacturer catalogs (SKF, FAG, NSK) for detailed aISO charts. Values from 0.1 to 50 are possible.
