Industrial Machinery Vibration Evaluation Evidence Worksheet

Organize scope, measurement and source evidence for qualified external review against the current published ISO 20816-3:2022. This worksheet checks documentation completeness only; it does not calculate a vibration zone, diagnosis, alarm, acceptance result or operating instruction.

ISO 20816-3:2022 – Edition 1Published – stage 90.92Above 15 kW120 to 30 000 r/minEdition 2 FDIS pendingNo automatic zone
Not a machine-safety decision. A machine label and one vibration value cannot establish an ISO zone or justify continued operation, maintenance, load reduction or shutdown. Use the licensed current standard, the exact machine and measurement configuration, manufacturer/site limits, protection logic, trend and an accountable qualified reviewer.

Evaluation-evidence record

The withdrawn predecessor ended at 15 000 r/min; the current published scope ends at 30 000 r/min.
Motor coupling and direct pump construction can change the applicable part.
Identify each coupled component, rated power/speed, construction, bearing/support arrangement and relevant manufacturer documentation.
This is retained as source text; decimal point and decimal comma are both preserved. The website performs no numerical zone calculation.
Do not assume a universal 10 to 1000 Hz band from the former page.
Record the licensed criterion used, baseline, time basis and whether the result concerns a steady magnitude or a change.
Record actual speed, load, thermal state, process state and evidence that the measurement was steady and within the nominal range.

Not assessed

This output is not an ISO zone, diagnosis, alarm, acceptance result or instruction to continue, maintain, reduce load or stop a machine.

What the official public record establishes

The current speed ceiling is 30 000 r/min. The former page’s 15 000 r/min ceiling belongs to withdrawn ISO 10816-3:2009.
There is no universal 50 MW upper limit. Output thresholds interact with machine family and operating speed; for example, special turbine/generator and gas-turbine cases refer to other parts.
Several advertised machine types are excluded. Examples include reciprocating machines, direct/integrated rotodynamic motor-pumps, reciprocating compressors, positive-displacement compressors, submerged motor-pumps and wind turbines.
Fans have a public limitation. Criteria are generally applicable above 300 kW or when the fan is not flexibly supported; other classification can require manufacturer/customer agreement and operating experience.
Motor coupling matters. Flexible-coupled motors are listed; a rigidly coupled motor can require comparison with the other applicable ISO 20816 part.
Geared stages require care. A machine set with gears can be in scope, but gearbox acceptance testing refers to ISO 20816-9 and gear-condition diagnosis is not supplied here.
Numerical values are guidelines. The public record warns that specific machine features can make generic numerical values inappropriate.
No website formula is applied. The old threshold function was removed because its current licensed source and complete measurement conditions were not established.

    Review notes

Why does this page no longer output Zone A, B, C or D?

The former twelve boundaries lacked a checked licensed ISO 20816-3:2022 source, exact machine classification, measurement configuration, operating state, processing and boundary convention. A numeric zone would therefore be unsupported.

Is ISO/FDIS 20816-3 Edition 2 already the current standard?

No. The official record shows it under development in the approval phase at stage 50.00. ISO 20816-3:2022 remains the current published International Standard until a replacement is actually published.

Does ISO 20816-3 cover every pump and compressor?

No. The public record excludes direct or integrated rotodynamic motor-pump configurations, reciprocating compressor systems and rotary positive-displacement compressors such as screw compressors, among other listed exclusions.

Can the highest mm/s reading automatically determine machine condition?

No universal shortcut was verified from the public record. Overall condition can require shaft, structural and specific-frequency evidence plus the licensed procedure and exact machine configuration.

Can this worksheet recommend continued operation, maintenance or shutdown?

No. Operational decisions require plant protection logic, site and manufacturer limits, trends and corroborating evidence, the licensed current standard and accountable engineering review.

Source access: 17 July 2026. No closed ISO clause, draft text, table, coefficient or numeric boundary is copied or inferred. The former twelve boundaries, automatic zones, generic diagnostics and operating instructions were removed because their current normative basis and complete application conditions were not verified.
