Decode the marking only after selecting its governing standard. IEC 60529 IPX9 and road-vehicle ISO 20653 IPX9K are different designations and are never silently interchanged.

IEC letters
Additional letters: A — back of hand; B — finger; C — tool; D — wire. Supplementary letters: H — high-voltage apparatus; M — moving parts in motion during the water test; S — moving parts stationary during the water test; W — specified weather conditions. ISO 20653 vehicle K-codes
ISO 20653 is a separate road-vehicle standard. It includes K-suffixed characteristics such as 4K/6K/9K and markings such as IP6K9K. The decoder distinguishes those tokens from IEC 60529 ИП69. It gives only the characteristic name; exact test severities and acceptance criteria remain NEEDS_LICENSED_SOURCE.
Current editions
The current IEC consolidated publication is IEC 60529:1989+A1:1999+A2:2013 CSV, edition 2.2, including listed corrigenda through January 2019, for electrical-equipment enclosures up to 72.5 kV; IEC lists a stability date of 2027. Amendment 2 added the newer content including IPX9. ISO 20653:2023, edition 3, is Published for electrical equipment of road vehicles and is marked “to be revised”.
Why detailed test numbers and applications were removed
The former page mixed old IEC summaries, ISO 20653/DIN 40050-9 IPX9K values and universal application examples. IPX7 is not simply “1 m depth” for every specimen, while IPX8 conditions are agreed and more severe than IPX7—not a universal 1.5–3 m. A public Schneider Electric guide confirms X and additional-letter structure and examples IP20C/IPXXB; current HELLA product documentation shows the road-vehicle IP6K9K family. Numerical apparatus, duration, flow, distance, pressure, dust category and acceptance details must be taken from the licensed current standard and the actual report.
