Large Turbomachinery Vibration Evaluation Evidence Worksheet

Organize scope, measurement and source evidence for external review against ISO 20816-2:2017 with Amendment 1:2024. This worksheet checks documentation completeness only; it does not generate a vibration zone, diagnosis, alarm or operating instruction.

ISO 20816-2:2017 · Edition 1Confirmed 2023Amendment 1 · 2024>40 MW · fluid-film bearingsFour exact rated speedsNo automatic zone
Not a machine-safety decision. A machine label and one vibration value cannot establish an ISO zone or justify continued operation, load reduction or shutdown. Use the licensed base standard and amendment, the exact machine and measurement configuration, site/manufacturer limits, and an accountable qualified reviewer.

Evaluation-evidence record

The official scope lists four speeds, not a continuous 1 500 to 3 600 r/min interval.
Identify the train, casing/rotor, bearing number and relevant coupled component from the report.
Do not infer a protected band or processing rule from the former simplified tables.
Record load, thermal state, rated/actual speed, excitation and whether the state was stable or transient.

Not assessed

This output is not an ISO zone, diagnosis, alarm, acceptance result or instruction to continue, reduce load or stop a machine.

What the official public record establishes

Four discrete rated speeds. The scope lists 1 500, 1 800, 3 000 and 3 600 r/min. It does not say every speed inside that interval.
Machine construction matters. Land-based installation, output above 40 MW and fluid-film bearings are all part of the scope.
Gas turbines are included too. The official title is broader than the former page title, while aero-derivative gas turbines are excluded.
Position and direction matter. Main-bearing housing radial, thrust-bearing housing axial and rotating-shaft radial measurements are distinct.
Operating state matters. Normal steady state, run-up/run-down/loading changes and changes during steady operation are not interchangeable contexts.
Current basis includes an amendment. A 2025 webpage that cites only the base number does not prove it applied the 2024 technical change.

    Review notes

Why does this page no longer output Zone A, B, C or D?

The former six boundaries lacked a checked licensed base-plus-amendment source, exact measurement configuration, operating state, processing and boundary convention. A numeric zone would therefore be unsupported.

    Does 1 500 to 3 600 r/min describe the scope?

No. The official public scope lists four discrete rated speeds: 1 500, 1 800, 3 000 and 3 600 r/min. Other rated speeds are explicitly outside this part’s stated scope.

Does the worse of housing and shaft readings automatically govern?

No such universal shortcut was verified from the public record. The licensed procedure, applicable position/direction criteria, change criteria, machine configuration and site/manufacturer rules must be applied by a qualified reviewer.

Can this worksheet recommend continued operation, load reduction or shutdown?

No. Operational decisions require plant protection logic, site and manufacturer limits, trend and corroborating evidence, the licensed base standard plus amendment, and accountable engineering review.

Source access: 17 July 2026. No closed ISO clause, amendment text, table, coefficient or numeric boundary is copied or inferred. The previous six boundaries, automatic zones, diagnostic messages and operating instructions were removed because their current normative basis was not verified.
