Documented Oil-Service Limit
Compare hours since change with one authorized operating-hour limit. Enter oil-condition disposition only when it comes from the applicable OEM, oil supplier or controlled monitoring program.
Document comparison
Arithmetic only
A negative margin means the entered hour limit has been exceeded. It does not predict remaining oil life.
Condition-based use requires authorization
Flender gearbox instructions 7300en (05/2024) allow oil-supplier examination and approval as an alternative to a fixed change interval, and require representative, repeatable sampling and retained results. That application-specific procedure is not a universal multiplier.
ASTM D6224-23 permits condition/test-result-based changes only within its specific scope: mineral oils and certain phosphate ester fluids in auxiliary power-plant equipment. It excludes general synthetic-lubricant coverage and turbine oils.
Not assessed
- Viscosity, water, particles, acidity/basicity, oxidation, additives, wear debris or laboratory alarm limits.
- Calendar, storage, start/stop, contamination-event, warranty or legal limits.
- Whether an “acceptable” result authorizes extension beyond a separate fixed maximum.
- Oil cost, downtime, failure probability or fitness for continued service.
