Every mistake on this list has been made by at least two real users in support history. Check yourself before blaming the device.

1. Angle counted against rotation

The most expensive mistake. The correction-weight angle is counted from the trial-weight position, in the direction of rotor rotation. Trial weight = 0°.

2. Percent instead of grams

The device showed “322” and “177” — the user welded on 322 g. Those were percentages of the trial mass. Cause: the mounting radius and/or trial mass not entered — the program switches to %. Fix: enter the radius and mass, check the g/% switch in Balancing Settings.

3. The “remove mass” checkbox while welding on

The settings say “material removal” while the user welds weights on → the result’s sign is inverted, vibration grows. Case: a Seppi mulcher at 50+ mm/s wouldn’t balance until this checkbox was found. After the fix — “runs very quietly”.

4. A moved tacho mark

Re-stuck the mark / moved the tachometer between runs → the phase zero shifted, the whole series is void. The mark and the tachometer are fixed once, until the job is done.

5. Sensors mounted wrong

  • Axial instead of radial (sensor on the end face) — the balancing “won’t converge”. After moving the sensors to a radial/horizontal position the same machine balances fine.
  • A sensor on a flimsy part (guard, thin sheet) measures the guard’s rattle, not the rotor. Mount on the bearing housing or a stiff element near a stiffening rib.

6. RPM changed mid-series

Run 0 taken at 1500, Run 1 at 1700 rpm. The calculation is void: influence coefficients depend on RPM, plus you may drive into a resonance. Recommendation: no more than 100 rpm difference between runs.

7. Trial weight not removed

The program assumes the trial weight was removed (or moved) but it is still on the rotor. The two-plane order: Run 0 with no weights → Run 1 with the trial in plane 1 → Run 2 with the trial moved (not added!) to plane 2 → remove the trials, mount the corrections.

8. A trial weight too big or too small

  • Amplitude/phase change from the trial below ~20–30% → the device has “nothing to calculate from” and outputs absurd masses.
  • Change above ~100% → the system is pushed into nonlinearity by excessive vibration, the calculation “overshoots”.

9. Full mass on a nonlinear machine

The device said 600 g — 600 g was welded on — things got worse. On mulchers and “soft” machines install a half, closer to the finish a third. If after the half the program asks for the remainder in the same spot, the system is linear and the calculation can be trusted fully.

10. Balancing a “bare” rotor

Taking off the knives/hammers and balancing a “clean” shaft is a mistake: with the working tools fitted the balance will differ. Balance in working trim. Replace worn hammers in pairs, 180° apart (a new and a worn hammer can differ by up to ~100 g).

11. Ignoring the mechanics

“The device is faulty, it won’t balance” — while in reality: bearing play (per support experience — up to 80% of problem cases; “practically every second mulcher balances only after both bearings are replaced”), housing cracks (second place), a bent shaft, an unsecured flap. The device doesn’t repair the machine — it measures it.

12. Lost calibration coefficients

Reinstalled the program, didn’t enter the coefficients → the device shows “wrong” vibration. The coefficients are on the sticker on the unit’s bottom, on the box, and in the file on the USB stick.

13. Working in the sun without shading the tachometer

Symptom: 0 rpm or jumping RPM outdoors. Shade (cardboard, a rag, the 3D hood) solves it. Details — chapter 08.
